Pro-Tiger plot to defeat budget proposals
National
Freedom Front Leader Wimal Weerawansa has alleged that UNP is again plotting a
'headcount game' to defeat the government's 2009 budget proposals.
Helping the UNP in this 'brief case conspiracy' is former Norwegian Ambassador
and staunch LTTE supporter Jon Westborg who arrived in Colombo with a sack full
of cash to bribe the political 'frogs' in Parliament who are ready to jump into
the Ranil-led Opposition if they are assured of monetary
gains.
The NFF Leader made this allegation at a meeting held under the theme "Let's build a national economy after totally defeating terrorism by boosting the morale of War Heroes" at the BMICH, Colombo on Friday November 7.
Noting
that the 41 MPs of the UNP, 24 of the JVP, 22 of the TNA, 12 of the JNP (NFF), four of the
SLMC and two of the SLFP (M) makes a total of 105 members, Weerawansa said that
the UNP will resort to all possible tricks to 'buy' the balance 18 MPs without
the JVP. And former Norwegian Ambassador Jon Westborg has already arrived in
Colombo to help the UNP in this task. He
is currently staying at the Taj Hotel looking forward to the defeat of the
Rajapaksa Government's defence budget proposals.
This
is possibly a last ditch attempt to save Prabhakaran and his cohorts who are now
cornered in Kilinochchi which would be in Security Forces' hands by Dec. 8,
according to the NFF Leader. He further
said that there is no possibility of discussing national development until
Prabhakaran is defeated, Separatism should be wiped out as soon as possible,
Weerawansa stressed.
Minister Champika Ranawaka said that no national or international federalist forces would be allowed reverse the gains of the Security Forces in this final battle against Tiger terrorism. He said that regardless of what U.S. Ambassador Robert Blake or Indian Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee says the anti-LTTE war would continue.
He emphasized that 21 MPs of both the National Freedom Front and the JHU were determined to see that the war continues until final victory is achieved - no matter who tried to stop the military campaign.

Marxists misled Sinhala Buddhists
Environment Minister and JHU Policy Maker Patali Champika Ranawaka said (August 5) that the JVP is again trying to mislead young people and Buddhist monks by getting them to demonstrate in the streets with the idea of promoting the party's dubious political agendas.
Minister Ranawaka said that when addressed meeting on the topic, 'Nation's Path to progress: Red way or Buddhist way' at the Public Library Auditorium. The Hela Thurunu Saviya organized the meeting. Nearly 1000 were gathered for the meeting including Venerable theros.
He
said that during the LSSP-organized Hartal of 1953 the Left parties had imagined
that they could use the working class to cripple elected governments through
revolution. When the Marxist old guard
failed in their attempts the JVP twice tried unsuccessfully to achieve the same
objective in 1971 and in 1988-89. Their actions had a very unfortunate and
negative impact on Sinhala Buddhist society.
On the earlier occasion the Vidyalankakara and Vidyodaya universities were closed for many months, after large number of young bhikkus were drawn into the insurgency. On the second occasion the same universities – renamed Sri Jayewardenepura and Kelaniya – were closed and around 600 monks were killed.
The
Minister said that was about time that that those Sinhala Buddhists - who have
been lured by Marxist rhetoric –
selected the right path to develop the country in the current global
socio-political and economic context.
